About the AKA High School Scholarships
Alpha Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was chartered in 1929. It was the first graduate chapter in Northern California and the second graduate chapter in the Far Western Region.

Ida Louise Jackson Scholarship
Ida Louise Jackson, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, was Oakland’s first African-American school teacher in 1923. She was a charter member and first President of Rho Chapter in 1921.
Immediately after graduation, she became one of the founding members in the establishment of Alpha Nu Omega Chapter and later its first president.
To honor her achievements, the chapter voted unanimously to give a Chapter scholarship in her name annually in 1982.

Alvie Campbell Bible Scholarship
Alvie Campbell Bible, an educator in the Oakland Public Schools for 29 years. She was dedicated to helping students attain a high level of academic achievement.
In addition to working in the school district, she constantly worked with students through her church and numerous community organizations. Alvie Campbell Bible was a devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and it was her desire to establish a scholarship that would aid students pursuing careers as educators.

Denise Renee Williams Scholarship
Denise studied at Bishop O’Dowd High School where she was part of the debate team, forensic club, the Latin club, and student government.
She completed postgraduate work at Mills College and Stanford University in Florence, Italy. During her time there, she was a teacher, reading specialist, and counselor. Additionally, she served as principal to Robert O. Gipson Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
To celebrate her achievements, a scholarship was established by her mother Rita Williams in her name.

Ruth Love Scholarship
Dr. Ruth Love, a former superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District, had a strong membership in Alpha Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
To honor her after a successful bid for superintendent in Chicago, friends and colleagues made farewell donations in her name in the Bay Area for a testimonial dinner.
However, the remains of the donations was set aside for a scholarship to be given to a graduate of an Oakland public school at Dr. Ruth Love’s request.
